I read an article in some pregnancy magazine that said, as if actually existing within Kerry’s body, ‘you’re feeling better than ever now in your pregnancy!. You and your partner are likely to go on a trip around this time, usually as a way of enjoying each other on a vacation for the last time in a long while.’
Well, maybe I indulged the quote a bit, but it’s hardly far from what the article was trying to get across. Damn magazines – how belittling it is to be that predictable.
Regardless, we took to Southern Missouri for our “last bit of freedom” vacation with Dennis and Ann and had ourselves one heck of a time.
That’s in all the best ways possible – well, mostly all the best ways possible.
It started out fun enough. Kerry and I both had Thursday and Friday off, so we were able to get everything ready in due time. So early, in fact, that I had time to play a bit with our new Canon Pixma MP800 photoprinter.
Never mind the plug for a second, let’s just pay attention to the sheer obnoxiousness we were able to create with it. You see, Dennis had called a meeting to make sure we all were getting the right supplies for canoeing.
It was a bit anal and overproduced, so a punishment was due. At the meeting, I had bragged a bit about the photo reproduction quality of the printer and Dennis said he wanted to see some time because he and Ann were in the market for a new printer, especially for photos.
This came out slightly fuzzy, but we were satisfied.
When it comes to evil plots, I think Kerry and I probably take a few turns at who is the Arch Nemesis and who is just the follow up henchman. Kerry, in this case, was definitely the Nemesis.
“We should get a frame for it. That way they have to display it!”
Brilliant – so off to Wal-Green’s we went in search of a few choice leftovers for our trip and a beautiful frame to hold the love we had captured within.
The photo, by the way, was from our New Year’s outing. Dennis and Ann were quite jolly, and in a rare mood actually displayed a kernel of affection for each other. We didn’t realize we had caught a tonguing until this little evil search of mine for the perfect photo to demonstrate our new printer’s amazing abilities.
That was the start of our vacation, and it sets the tone well. When we get our photos back from the trip, I’ll be sure to demonstrate some more of my printer’s fine abilities by scanning in the negatives. We used film since losing a digital cam on the river would only piss us off.
Theseus’ daughter, Makayla, apparently took a group photo of us at the end of the day. We had gotten back to the cabin and apparently we look like a posse of bad ass prison inmate canoers(not a word in case you are curious) or a group that is ready to kill itself according to Kerry.
Paddling days are enjoyable, but long and tiring. That sun really can pull it out of you. Several cold beers probably don’t help much either, but one must maintain hydration levels.
